Turkey Giveaway at Astoria Houses

The Urban Upbound Astoria team was fortunate to participate in a couple of turkey giveaways ahead of Thanksgiving. Led by community leaders and with the support of generous donors, hundreds of families from Astoria Houses benefited.

Against the gloomy backdrop of the current spike in COVID-19 cases, it is encouraging to witness neighbors in this corner of Queens coming together. Perseverance and camaraderie are major traits among public housing residents here. Nevertheless, the list of struggles faced by this community is not short.

Urban Upbound continues to be at the forefront of innovation and is responding by doubling down in our relief and recovery efforts. We are working with our clients to prepare them for an ever more digital world, from virtual interviews to banking online. In addition to employment and financial counseling, our Youth Development Program has supported a record number of college-bound high school students. And our Income Supports team has been busier than ever, helping hundreds of families file for Economic Impact Payments and other benefits.
