Hip Hop Legend Eric B. to Join Urban Upbound’s 2020 Virtual Benefit
— by Urban Upbound Development Team
We are very excited to announce that we recently confirmed Hip Hop Legend, Eric B. for our Relief and Recovery Virtual Benefit on October 21, 2020, joining Urban Upbound as we celebrate our 16th anniversary!
Eric B. has long been considered one of the legendary figures in the ever-evolving world of hip hop music, his work gaining recognition in the late 80s and early 90s. His debut album as the Eric B. & Rakim duo, “Paid in Full,” released in 1987 brought about a new style of hip hop. While Rakim pioneered internal rhymes and a free-flowing rap style, DJ Eric B. improvised on funk, soul, and jazz-infused samples to make timeless beats.
Nowadays, in addition to returning to the CBS drama “Blue Bloods” as Lt. Mike Gee, Eric B. has been spending his time helping Urban Upbound’s relief and recovery efforts. Eric B. has even shown up at our warehouse in Long Island City, which is the heart of our food distribution program and where we pack boxes of healthy fresh food to be delivered to over ten distribution sites all over Queens, including Far Rockaway, Jamaica, and East Elmhurst.
Born and raised in Queens, the advancement of Eric’s community is a very important cause to him. After seeing the rising demand for basic needs assistance, especially of food, in struggling neighborhoods around Queens, Eric has extended a helping hand for his less fortunate neighbors.
And now Eric B. will be joining the celebration of our 16th anniversary and supporting our Relief and Recovery efforts! Join us on October 21 at UrbanUpbound.org/2020virtual to watch his performance, win some raffle prizes, and learn more about the impact of our work.
