Growing Stronger Together: OnPoint Security’s Journey with Urban Upbound
For more than five years, OnPoint Security Cooperative has partnered with Urban Upbound to strengthen its business, expand opportunities for its members, and build a sustainable worker-owned enterprise rooted in community and economic empowerment.
Founded by Douglas Carr, OnPoint Security first connected with Urban Upbound through Bishop Mitchell G. Taylor. Since then, the cooperative has benefited from ongoing guidance, resources, and support from Urban Upbound’s Business Innovation team.
Today, OnPoint Security employs 17 individuals and continues to grow. Curtis, who joined the company in 2018 as a security officer before becoming a cooperative member and eventually General Manager, has witnessed that growth firsthand.
“It has been a great experience working with Urban Upbound. I’ve met great people through the organization and have seen how committed they are to helping people build themselves up. Their programs and community outreach make a real difference.”
Vanessa credits Urban Upbound’s partnership as a key factor in the cooperative’s continued success.
“On behalf of OnPoint Security Cooperative, we sincerely express our gratitude for Urban Upbound’s support, partnership, and belief in our mission. Their guidance and commitment to empowering small businesses and cooperatives have made a meaningful impact on our growth and development.”
Over the years, Urban Upbound has helped OnPoint strengthen its foundation and position itself for long-term sustainability.
“Because of Urban Upbound’s support, we have been able to expand opportunities and continue building a business rooted in professionalism, community, and economic empowerment. We truly appreciate the resources, encouragement, and leadership they provide.”
When asked whether they would recommend Urban Upbound to other businesses and cooperatives, both Vanessa and Curtis responded without hesitation.
“I would absolutely recommend Urban Upbound because of its strong reputation, reliable services, and the positive impact it has consistently delivered to our cooperative,” said Vanessa.
“I’ve seen the positive impact Urban Upbound has on the community through its outreach and programs,” added Curtis. “They genuinely care about helping people succeed.”
As OnPoint Security continues to grow, its partnership with Urban Upbound remains a testament to the power of investing in worker-owned businesses and creating pathways to economic opportunity for communities across New York City.
